Art With Action

I started this organization after the presidential election in 2016 as way of resisting a national agenda that I found increasingly alarming and uncivil. I made these simple small paintings. People bought them. I donated 100% of the proceeds to organizations that work for social justice.

I sold them for between $50-$100 and was astonished at the amount of people interested. I sold 36 paintings that year and raised $2,650.

Proceeds from that first fundraiser went to The ACLU, Southern Poverty Law Center, Planned Parenthood, NAACP, Human Rights Campaign, and NPR.

Art With Action reopened in June 2018 and again in July 2019 in response to the southwestern border crisis with the separation of refugee and migrant children from their families and subsequent horrific detainment. 100% of sales were donated to RAICES (Refugee and Immigrant for Education and Legal Services), ASAP (Asylum Seeker Advocacy Project), Together Rising and ACLU. These organizations used funding to pay bonds for detainees in order for them to be relocated to family members while awaiting a asylum hearing, or to send teams of immigration lawyers and advocates to travel and work with those detained.

Total Funds raised and donated by Art With Action is $5,325 made possible by 53 paintings sold to 27 concerned individuals: Special thanks to my husband, Maxwell George for framing upon request.

*I open this organization from time to time, when the news reports enrage me and I need to use art as a way to heal myself and others.
