These paintings are part of a series titled “Copper Grounds” in which copper leaf is used with acrylic paint to depict textured and imagined landscapes. I live in a place with vibrant light; it penetrates the rocky forests and the tiny secret salt-water coves. Nature is rendered beautiful to me in all forms, but it’s wonder becomes clearest to me in thick paint and scratched surfaces of my wooden canvas. The emotion evoked by intense light and dark is captured in the electrifying skies and dizzying patterns of grass and hillsides. Geometry is the grounding foundation and the resultant pictures lift me deep into this natural world.
